Ocean Explorer 3 – Navigation reinvented
You don't change a successful formula just like that. That's why the Ocean Explorer 3 series is being reintroduced as a modular product line. The new MFDs are available as a standalone console, tabletop unit or black box model. Whichever variant you choose, there is always a solution that fits seamlessly into the layout of your bridge.
Whether it's a new build or the retrofit of an existing bridge, installation is simple and efficient in every situation. Thanks to the IP-based design, significantly less cabling is required and there is no need for an interswitch for radar overlay. The result: a flexible, future-proof and cost-conscious solution that drastically reduces complexity on board.
RADAR
From the initial design stage, JRC has placed a strong focus on simplifying installation and maintenance. By actively listening to the experiences and feedback of service engineers, our product developers have succeeded in making the maintenance of the new MFDs easier on-board ships.
The NDC-1858 Central Control Unit (CCU) and Power Supply Unit (PSU) have been combined into a single compact module, which immediately reduces the number of components and speeds up installation. In addition, the new radars feature a common chassis, making installation or replacement considerably easier. And thanks to the IP-based design, radars can now be connected via a single LAN cable for data transport.
The result: a system that is not only quicker to install, but also significantly simplifies on-board maintenance and reduces overall costs.
JRC always offers a suitable solution, tailored to the size and layout of your bridge. The new MFD is available as a standalone radar unit within the JMR-9300 series with an NWZ-233 27-inch bonded Full HD screen (1920 × 1080), or within the JMR-7300 series with an NWZ-214 19-inch screen (SXGA 1280 × 1024).
Operation is simple and accurate via the familiar NCE-8604 Trackball Operation Unit or the NCE-5625 Keyboard Operation Unit. In combination with the updated graphical user interface (GUI), the operator experiences a clear and intuitive way of working.
With the new JMR-7300/9300 series, you not only benefit from standard functionalities, but also from a range of advanced extra features that make navigation safer, more efficient and future-proof:
- Collision avoidance
- Target tracking
- IP Radar scanner unit with dual LAN
- Solid-State Radar scanner unit
- 2nd PPI can be used as 2nd Radar display*

Solid-state X- & S-band network radar scanners
With the introduction of the Ocean Explorer 3 product line, JRC is taking a major step forward in the development of IP-based radar scanners. A total of 12 new models has been launched, including the S-band 250W, X-band 600W and 25kW antennas. The S-band 250W, X-band 600W, and 25kW antennas are equipped with a common chassis unit as standard, which means that JRC's highly reliable scanner motor is now the same for all these models – a guarantee of consistency and easy maintenance.
The new LAN radar scanners make installation and configuration considerably easier, helping you make the right choice, especially when it comes to certain situations on board ships. A single connection can be used to cover distances of up to 85 metres between the CCU and the scanner unit with a special LAN cable. If a distance of more than 85 metres needs to be bridged, the use of a media converter is a suitable solution.
In addition, a second LAN connection can be easily set up via a HUB, ensuring both redundancy and extra reliability – regardless of the situation on board.
Thanks to its network architecture, JRC offers maximum flexibility: connections can be made redundant or shared with multiple CCUs. Up to 8 scanners can be connected via the network, with data available on up to 10 workstations. This gives you unprecedented freedom and reliability when designing your bridge.
