SAR locating Device (RADAR-SART (9 GHz) or AIS-SART), as follows:

• 2 pieces for passenger ships
• 2 pieces for cargo ships ≥ 500 gt
• 1 piece for all cargo ships 300 < 500 gt

As from January 2024, every explicit reference to “Inmarsat” is replaced with the generic term Recognised Mobile Satellite Service (RMSS). Inmarsat and Iridium are both recognised as Recognised Mobile Satellite Service (RMSS).

Explosion proof or intrinsically safe 2-way portable radiotelephone equipment:

2 pieces per fire party on board:

• All ships built on or after 1 July 2014
• All ships built before 1 July 2014, not later than 1st survey after 1 July 2018

This regulation shall apply to the following types of ships engaged on international voyages:
- passenger ships, including high-speed passenger craft;
- cargo ships, including high-speed craft, of 300 gross tonnage* and upwards; and
- mobile offshore drilling units.

LRIT guidance

• LRIT functionality via Inmarsat: Inm-C, mini-C or IsatM2M
• LRIT functionality in Sea Areas:
  • Sea Area A1+A2+A3 via INM-C or Iridium.
  • Sea Area A4 via Iridium.
• A valid LRIT Conformance Test Report (CTR) to be available on board

All ships shall be provided with a ship security alert system, as follows:

• ships constructed on or after 1 July 2004;
• passenger ships, including high-speed passenger craft, constructed before 1 July 2004, not later than the first survey of the radio installation after 1 July 2004;
• oil tankers, chemical tankers, gas carriers, bulk carriers and cargo high speed craft, of 500 gross tonnage and upwards constructed before 1 July 2004, not later than the first survey of the radio installation after 1 July 2004;
• other cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and upward and mobile offshore drilling units constructed before 1 July 2004, not later than the first survey of the radio installation after 1 July 2006.
