Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) is set to take delivery of two newbuild DP2 shuttle tankers originally ordered in 2022. South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) held naming ceremonies on April 24 and 25 for the vessels Athens 04 and Paris 24. The tankers — each with a deadweight of 154,350 tons — are destined for long-term service with French energy major TotalEnergies.
The first vessel has already joined TEN’s fleet, while the second is expected to be delivered in June. Named in honor of the Olympic Games hosted by Athens in 2004 and Paris in 2024, the pair represents a strategic expansion of TEN’s shuttle tanker operations. According to TEN’s latest corporate update, both vessels are secured under time charters running through the first half of 2032, with extension options that could prolong the agreements by up to 11 additional years. These deliveries mark the start of a broader fleet renewal. TEN currently has another 10 shuttle tankers under construction at SHI, with delivery schedules stretching from mid-2026 to late 2028. Nine of these are designated for long-term contracts with Petrobras/Transpetro.
Once completed, the additions will bring TEN’s DP2 Suezmax shuttle tanker fleet to 16 vessels — placing the Greek shipowner among the largest independent operators in the segment. The company is also pushing forward with a wider fleet modernization program, encompassing 21 vessels with a combined 2.6 million dwt. Including both operational and under-construction ships, TEN’s diversified fleet — spanning crude oil tankers, product carriers, and LNG vessels — now stands at 82 vessels totaling 10.1 million dwt.
