Lithium batteries via airfreight
For airfreight shipments lithium batteries need to be packed according to the IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations.
Lithium batteries can be shipped on CAO (Cargo Aircraft Only) but please keep in mind that there are some destinations to which Airlines do not accept lithium batteries at all. As those destinations changes continually please always check with logistics department if shipment to requested destination is possible.
If shipment is possible, it must be packed and certified by an external company (SGS/PMT). This usually takes 1-2 working days.
The DG certification shows the consignee details given by you. If for any reason consignee changes after the shipment has been certified, it has to be sent back for new certification. This will cause delay in shipment and extra packing and certification charges.
Only after the shipment is packed and certified, it can be booked by the airline.
Charges for packaging and certification (hazard fee) by the external company is € 130.
Charges for dangerous goods shipments – fee from the airline (excl. airfreight charges) may vary between € 50 and € 150.
To most European countries shipment of lithium batteries are allowed via road (truck) only.
