ECDIS – Built on experience, shaped by user insights

Since 1995, JRC has been developing advanced ECDIS solutions that make a difference on bridges worldwide. From the moment the IMO established the first performance standard, our philosophy has remained unchanged: building on experience and continuously improving thanks to valuable input from navigation officers and users worldwide.

The latest generation of ECDIS models features a completely redesigned user interface, developed in accordance with the OpenBridge design guideline.

JRC | Alphatron Marine has been an active member of the OpenBridge community from the very beginning and has contributed to the standardization of maritime user interfaces.

The result is recognizable and intuitive operation across multiple systems – which not only increases ease of use, but also reduces the risk of errors, thereby further enhancing safety on the bridge.

The new ECDIS graphic design has been completely redesigned with the user in mind. Clear, icon-based controls and streamlined menus keep the display easy to read – whether the system is being used in daylight, at dusk or in the middle of the night. Navigation officers can perform their daily tasks faster and with greater confidence: from route planning and target tracking to switching between systems and monitoring alarms. The updated Graphical User Interface not only makes navigation easier, but also safer and more consistent across the entire bridge.

The latest ECDIS models support all common industry standards and are fully compatible with well-known ENC chart suppliers. The basic configuration consists of a standalone ECDIS – the JAN-9301 series with a 27-inch bonded Full HD display (1920×1080), or the JAN-7301 series with a 19-inch SXGA display (1280×1024). A solid and future-proof basis for any modern bridge design.

S-101 The new industrial standard in electronic navigational charts (ENC)

As part of the International Hydrographic Organization’s (IHO) new S-100 data framework, S-101 marks an important step in the evolution of electronic navigational charts (ENC). This new standard replaces the outdated S-57 standard and forms the basis for a future in which ship navigation will become smarter, safer and more up to date.

The S-101 standard makes it possible to display a wider range of maritime data – from bathymetry and water levels to currents and real-time updates. This results in more accurate chart presentation and supports more efficient decision-making on board.

Although S-101 will not become mandatory for new ECDIS models until 2029, JRC is already ready for the future today. The latest generation of Ocean Explorer 3 ECDIS models (JAN-7301/9301) are fully compatible with the new S-101 standard, so you can already benefit from the advantages of this next generation of e-navigation. In addition to the new S-101 standard and standard features, you can also use the following features:
